2012 Autocross School

Last Updated: 02/13/2012, 12:56:04

autocross school So you’ve got this beautiful, fun-to-drive Porsche, yanking on its’ leash, raring to go. But there are those pesky, half aware, commuters on the road. Ditto the gendarmes. What to do to enjoy your fantastic car in a safe, legal environment? Think “autocross”.

What is autocross? Think “big, obstruction free, parking lot”. Think, “orange cones” that define a course to drive your car on. Think “street legal speeds” that can feel double digit due to the tight course. Think “full throttle out of a sweeping turn, onto a short straight at full throttle as your tach moves up toward redline in 2nd gear”. Think “smooth but quick transition from full throttle to hard braking as you approach and set up for the next turn”. Think “the most fun you’ve ever had with your car”. Think, “Safe”, for you and your car.

Come join us March 17 and 18 for our Autocross School. Then stay to apply your newly acquired knowledge at our first Autocross event of 2012. On Saturday morning we will have classroom instruction on what to expect, driving techniques, preparation, etc. Sunday morning will be on site for our first autocross event. Students will have driving exercises for a couple of hours prior to the actual event. Nervous? Hesitant? Don’t be. The school is for first timers. Besides, not a single one of us was born knowing how to drive our cars the way they were meant to be driven. We love helping new people learn how, just as we once did.

Whether you desire to do track events, even racing, in the future, or whether you just want a chance to enjoy driving your car more aggressively without traffic or police, you will love autocross. It is safe for your car: Our courses are almost always 2nd gear only so there is minimal shifting. The only thing to hit is a nearly harmless traffic cone. And obviously it is safe for you. Helmets are required, but we have loaners. Make sure you have legal tires with at least factory recommended air pressures, no loose items inside (this includes driver side floor mats), and proper oil level.

Register on-line at www.ClubRegistration.net for both the school and Autocross #1. Additional info on the school, how to register, what autocross is, etc, is available at our website, here.

NOTE: Ignore most of the Autocross Checklist. We will discuss a greatly simplified list at the Saturday school.
