2008 Rally #1
The Spring Rally - April 20, 2008
ESCAPE FROM THE DAM RALLY REPORT
The first Peachstate points rally of 2008 was held on April 20th with weather conditions that could only be described as a "perfect 10" for the second year in a row. Our start point was near the Wade Green exit off of I-75, a place closer in to Atlanta than I thought could be useable for rally roads. However, after the ODO leg we found some very acceptable, twisting, lovely Porsche roads, that never deviated very far from I-75 and even used Hwy 41 for a short distance of just over a mile. Of note, every checkpoint and even the end of ODO had a toilet facility available. Some facilities WERE better than others, however.

The mid rally break was at the Allatoona Dam Park where we started and ended last year's Rally #1. While there was only one tricky part on this rally, the named road following turn on Hwy 293, almost every rally team found some difficulty on each leg which left the baffling leg scores you will see in this issue. The exception to this was the fantastic team of James Lyle and Amy Kremer, who "aced" this rally with leg times of (this is in seconds now) 3, 6, 37, and 36. If that isn't a "wow" performance, then such doesn't exist! Congratulations James and Amy!

While it was difficult to get the teams back to West Cobb in a reasonable manner with all the traffic lights that abound, our teams seemed to handle the "transit zones" just fine. Thanks to Kathy Baker for preparing and arranging the food for about 45 folks. Without workers, a rally could not happen. At checkpoints one and three was long ago member Penny McCaleb with hubby David, with help from Del and Ann Burch and Dave Ulfik. At checkpoint two were Dan and Cathy Saxton and Maureen Ringler. Thanks also to Janice Phillips for checking the rally and adding her valuable observations!

It was truly wonderful to see each and every contestant at the party. We hope you all enjoyed the day! All faces were smiling (a rally masters dream) even though only one team can be declared the winner. The food was outstanding and the friendship was enjoyed by all. We hope that Rob and Linda enjoy their HWY 293 DALBF award. We also hope no one got lost on the way home.
