PORSCHES & PLANES IV - Concours at Stoney Point Airport… Results
We had another great showing of our favorite car for the Porsches & Planes
Concours. The Weather Channel promised on the day of the event, if not clear
skies, at least no rain until after 3:00pm. Just goes to show why they call it
weather forecasting instead of weather control or guarantee. Drizzle started
around noon and by the time that judging commenced we were in a real downpour.
Twenty-seven competitors braved the elements and prepared their cars for the
judges to inspect. We had 10 club members compete in the Full Concours Class and
an additional 17 entries for our Wash & Shine Class. In addition to the
competition another forty or so members brought their Porsches to the show. In
spite of the wet conditions, the participants, spectators and guests that
attended the event enjoyed a tremendous assortment of Porsches and enjoyed a
great BBQ lunch provided by our friends from "Shane's Rib Shack". Our special
thanks go out to club member Steve Erhardt, owner of PHILLY PRETZEL FACTORY, who
kindly provided hot pretzels to all attendees just prior to the awards ceremony.

Special Interest |
None of our events could take place without the help of our members and the
friends of the club. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Cliff Whitney, the
Stoney Point Airfield Homeowners Assoc., our host for the event.
An observation... in the 6+ years Bob and I have been participating in Concours
this is the first event in our region that has been held in the rain. Inclement
weather can hide a variety of sins in car preparation but at the same time add a
real challenge to the judges and support staff that assist in staging the event.
Special thanks go out to our "very wet" Porsche Club volunteers; Brian & Lisa
King, Dick Kjellson, Danny & Cathy Saxton, Jack Baker, Chris & Barbara Gellner,
Jack Baker, Terry & Debbie Sullivan, Bob Axt, Rob Casey, Maria Cordell, Tom &
Brian Roy, David Wilhide, Alan Kendall, Steve Blalock, Bill Ibsen, Nancy Frye
and Patti Kuchenbecker and everyone else that pitched in to help the event
succeed. Without all their assistance the event would not have been the success
that it was.
Our next Concours event will be July 26th at Hennessey Porsche, 990 Mansell
Road, Roswell, GA 30076
This Concours Event will be staged indoors, in the
service garage. Registration will start at 11AM. Lunch will be provided by our
friends at Hennessey beginning at 12PM and Judging is planned to begin at 1:00PM
rain or shine. Awards will be given in both categories; our Full Concours Class
and the Wash and Shine Class. A beautiful engraved plaque for "Peoples Choice"
will also be awarded. Remember, we always need lots of help to stage a
successful event. If you just want to come and show off your car and you're not
yet ready to commit to competing in a Concours, you can still participate by
being a volunteer. We'll see you, Sunday July 26th.
Don't forget, "
RENNFEST 2009" will be at Brasstown Valley Resort again and
should be one of the best events you can be a part of this year. It will be
another great showing of our fine Porsches staged at another picturesque setting
in the North Georgia Mountains. The Concours Event will take place first thing
in the morning on Saturday. We encourage all Porsche Club members, even those of
you that can't spend the entire weekend, to attend the Concours on Saturday and
see the show.
