Rennfest Concours d'Elegance
Saturday September 5, 2009
Dawn on Saturday for the Rennfest Concours broke with "Mountain Mist" obscuring the display area, so a delay of 30 minutes prior to commencing judging was granted to allow conditions to improve. The wait was well worth it as the 39 competitors worked feverishly to further prepare their autos. 22 Peachstaters were joined by 17 competitors from other regions in displaying a fabulous range of Porsches beginning with Ray Morgan's fresh out of restoration 1958 356 Speedster and extending through the yet to be released Panamera (yes we again were treated to a surprise exhibition) due to be introduced in mid October. In between was seen the full range of Porsche products including 911's of all variations as well as early water pumpers such as the 944, 968 and 928. A special treat was viewing Bob and Nadine Saville's 914-6 "Hughy". Those of you not familiar with its history should know that "Hughy" was totaled while participating in the Targa Newfoundland a few years ago, but through the efforts of both Bob and his wife Nadine was resurrected to again thrill us with its exploits.

Selection of the People's Choice was not an easy decision because of so many beautiful autos to choose from but once the ballots were counted Ray Morgan's Speedster came out on top. Vic Rola's 1972 911 in Rally trim was the Judges Choice, announced to great acclaim at the Banquet. Of special note is to recognize that Steve Blalock's 997 911 received the highest overall judging score at Rennfest Concours, but was superseded for awards because of "bonus points" awarded for mileage driven by the other cars in his class. Steve, you're still # 1!

As always, thanks go out to the participants who expended so much effort preparing their autos for display; and especially those individuals who assisting in staging, judging, scoring as well as the many other efforts necessary in bringing forth an event such as our Concours.
