WHO WE ARE
Tommy Nobis Center, founded in 1977, began with three individuals dedicated to helping the community and has since grown into an organization that provides meaningful employment for people with disabilities. Based in Metro Atlanta, we have worked for over 40 years and across 19 states to provide education, training and support to over 25,000 people with barriers to employment.
WHAT WE DO
Fulfilling our mission of empowering people through employment, Tommy Nobis Center makes a significant impact in the community by providing people with disabilities the resources needed to achieve their full potential and by helping employers fill their needs for a reliable, motivated and productive workforce. Our expert programs offer comprehensive, individualized support provided with a passion to help each person lead a more fulfilling life. We are constantly striving to develop supportive communities where people with disabilities are afforded the opportunity to work.
Job Readiness Training:
Classes are offered to assist with developing job readiness skills, job retention skills and best work practices. We prepare individuals for employment by helping them improve communication skills with co-workers and supervisors, assisting them with writing a resume, practicing job interviews and learning to complete job applications. Individuals can also receive community-based training at one of our community partner sites including WellStar, Owens & Minor, Kroger, and Asbury Automotive.
Job Development and Placement:
Individuals work with employment specialists to design an employment plan to reach their desired career goal and develop skills at writing resumes, interviewing and completing job applications. We also offer job sampling for participants to try out a job for a short period of time for a hands-on experience. Job shadowing and coaching services are also available to assist in training on the job and adjustment to a new work routine.
Occupational Skills Training:
Instruction and training leading to industry accepted certificates in computer skills, customer service, proper food handling and storage, cashiering, and forklift operation.
Employment Support:
Program managers and supervisors provide training on the job site and ongoing support for 90 days to ensure the participant's success. We provide this service at Tommy Nobis Center or at a community-based company.
Vocational and Work Evaluations:
Testing process that determines an individual's capabilities, needs, strengths, and preferences to identify viable vocational options to help develop employment goals and objectives. An individual's physical and psycho-social functioning in a job setting is evaluated. Group mobile testing also available.
