Porsche 250 GrandAm and IndyCar races at Barber Motorsports Park

Porsche 250 GrandAm and IndyCar Racing at BarberPeachstaters David Wilks and Bill Ibsen captured the exciting racing action in the GrandAm races Saturday and the IndyCar races on Sunday at the 2.3 mile, 17-turn pristine Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham.

In the Daytona Prototype class, the Pruett/Rojas BMW Riley team captured the win with a 1:23.834 best lap time, followed by the Gainsco Chevrolet Riley piloted by Fogarty/Gurney, and the Starworks Motorpsport Ford Riley team of Dalziel/Forest taking third.

The GT class of the Porsche 250 was won by Turner Motorsports BMW M3 Auberlen/Dalla Lana duo with a best lap time of 1:31.874, followed by Banner Racing's Camaro GT.R and SpeedSource's Mazda RX-8 of Bomarito/Tremblay. Fifth place was the highest Porsche placed in this event, led by Potter/Stanton in their Porsche GT3.

The IndyCar race on Sunday was a 90 lap, 214.2 mile affair, also with perfect weather like Saturday. Team Penske IndyCar driver Will Power led all 90 laps as he won the 2011 Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park. For Power, it was his first win of the 2011 IndyCar season, and 7th of his IndyCar career & 9th of his open-wheel career. Power started in the pole position with a qualifying time of 1:11.4546 and never looked back. Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti filled out the podium.
